AU-A, B, C Patents - Search Help

AU-A, B, C Patent Specifications as of 24 July 2008

This screen enables you to access AU-A, AU-B and AU-C Patent Specifications by either :
  • Patent Application Number (number assigned to the patent application at filing). For standard patent applications filed before 5 July 2002, Patent Application Numbers are input in the format 200134567, ie a four digit year followed by the five digit application number. On our mainframe and other IP Australia systems such a number could have been represented as 34567/01

  • Patent Number (number assigned to the standard patent application at acceptance) Patent Numbers are sequentially assigned in a continuing series of 6-figure numbers by IP Australia at acceptance of the standard patent application for standard patent applications filed before 5 July 2002

  • Patent Application Number (number assigned to the patent application at filing and retained throughout the life of the patent) for all standard patent applications filed from 5 July 2002 and all innovation patent applications. (The innovation patent system commenced on 24 May 2001.) These Patent Application Numbers are input in the format 2003234567, commencing with a four digit year followed by a six digit number.

    If the fifth digit of the ten digit Patent Application Number is:
    • 1 - the application is for an innovation patent,
    • 2 to 8 - the application is for a standard patent application.
Up to 14 numbers, separated by a "," can be submitted for any of the above searches.
